macaroon heaven

my sister has had a couple of her uni friends down and has been showing them the sights in london, and today she bought me some ladurée macaroons. macaroons are possibly my favourite sweet thing in the world and there are only a few places where you can buy them so i don't get them very often.  anyway she bought me 2 chocolate ones and a raspberry one and they were heavenly. her friends also bought me a bag of mini reeses peanut butter cups for cooking/baking for them the other day. pb cups are my favourite chocolates ever. i have perfected the art of making them - i made around 50 at christmas (yum) however i have not, after 2 attempts, perfected the art of macaroon making unfortunately. i have a macaroon cookbook but i think i must be doing something wrong because the mixture is always too liquid. anyone have any tips on making macaroons?

  1. I LOVE macaroons! I've made them a couple times (I have a macaroon cookbook too) and they are probably the hardest dessert I've tried to make. If you're mixture is too runny, maybe you could try whipping the egg whites a little longer. When I first tried making them, I was afraid I'd whip the eggs too long and they would be too stiff, but after a couple tries I figured out how long to whip them.

ps. Your blog is so cool! I really like it. :)

    1. thank you! I didn't want to over-whip the egg whites either and I thought perhaps I had too much egg white/sugar mixture, but I followed the recipe so I'm not sure. I agree, they are pretty tricky, harder than my cookbook says they should be. :)
